It's FRIDAY!!!

Hey look, everyone - it's Hitty Jean!!
Tag-along Kitty can't leave poor L'Orange alone, and behind Tag-along trails Hitty Rose who has known L'Orange long enough to worry slightly that the two might tangle, so she's keeping a watchful eye on them.
There was good news for Colleen today - her mom wrote that her Swaps are on the way. She's smiling again.

Small change in plans. We were planning a Meet & Greet for tonight, but we realized that one camper, possibly two, were delayed. One is now on her way here and may arrive tomorrow, so we want to postpone the Meet & Greet to see if she can possibly attend. Hurry, Lowla. We want you here. Our other missing camper has some family obligations to attend to, and she may decide that family is of greater importance, and we completely understand.
But whatever happens, we definitely have at least 11 campers for our first season, and we are beside ourselves with happiness, and not a little trepidation. So much remains to be done. But it will be done, and then it will all fall into place, just as it did at Big Girl's camp where Happy spent many summers as a Director. The Staff agonizes prior to the start, and then it's a breeze (sort of). The Staff often asks themselves "why" they do this thing when it takes so much mental and physical work. But it all becomes clear when the same whining campers who said no way did they want to be stuck in a hot tent with a bunch of strangers for a week have, on the final day, transformed into campers who, after saying tearful goodbyes to their new friends and counselors, rush with smiling faces to tell their parents about their fun week and beg to return next year.

A small stow-away

We were all in the process of greeting Hitty Lisa when we heard something rustling. In the box, playing with some bubble wrap, was the cutest little Siamese kitten. We got her untangled from the bubbles and tape and set her loose. She decided to introduce herself to L'Orange. Lisa told us that her name is Tag-along. We think she's adorable. L'Orange is not so sure.

Thursday Postal brings one more Camper.

Uh-oh. Little Riley, the first to arrive, has her head together with Hattie. I hope they aren't planning some mischief. I thought I heard some giggling, but maybe it's just girls being girls.

Today, Hitty Lisa from Maryland stepped off the Postal Bus and into the midst of our chaos. Of course Gracious was there to welcome her and introduce her to the others.

Still more campers!!

Ah, my dear old friend, Hitty Rose is here. I'm so glad you could come early to be with us. Campers, Hitty Rose has been here many times before. And she's come now with her older sister, Berdie, who will be a junior counselor. And who is that little peanut with you, Berdie?

Baby Berdie, we are so glad you were brave enough to come to camp. We will take extra good care of you, and you can see Berdie and Rose every day. Won't that be fun?

What a surprise - we thought you were going to be the Queen, stepping out of your golden box like that. Look everyone, it's Hittymine from Minnesota. Welcome to my home and ultimately to Camp Wanna Do. I don't know about you, but I can hardly wait for camp to begin!!

Hittymine's Golden Box!

More CAMPERS arriving!!

For a couple of days, Hitty G and the lovely Riley spent some leisurely time getting acquainted.
Then little Colleen arrived, totally broken hearted. Due to some Postal mixup, the poor darling lost her swaps along the way and arrived empty handed. Hitty G comforted her and told her to dry her eyes. "There, there - your Hitty Mom will make it all right again. Let's have fun, OK?"

By the time Alida showed up, Colleen was smiling again, and making friends with L'Orange. Or else she was being backed into the corner. Hmm.

Next, Hitty Hattie arrived, all the way from Washington State!! She and Gracious greeted each other as if they were old friends. Already camp looks interesting, and they haven't even gotten out of Hitty G's house!

The last camper to arrive on Monday was Callie. She also came a very long distance to Virginia from California. Hey, I wonder if that's where she got her name?

Beep beep ... here comes the camp bus!

Only just over a week away, and the tension is mounting and pressure building as we scurry around to prepare everything for the 12 campers who will be here. Today, Hitty G took time to check out the ol' Camp Wanna Do bus. She says the bus still runs just fine and will be ready to meet campers at the Postal, and then bring them and their things to the Capital Convention Center where the early arrivals will stay until camp begins. The bus will come back for campers and transport them from the CCC to camp on Sunday, July 19. Rest assured, camper moms, we will spare nothing to ensure the safety, well being, and happiness of our little Hittys.
